Job Summary:

Westat is seeking a passionate, engaged, and research-oriented statistician with a focus on data analysis and statistical modeling and programming experience in R to join our Statistical and Evaluation Sciences Unit at Westat.  You will provide expertise in the design of research projects in health, education, nutrition, food assistance, labor, and survey research. The successful applicant will also engage in company-wide efforts to strengthen our resources in applied data science and statistical learning.


Job Responsibilities:

· Work with survey statisticians and clients to understand their analytic needs and translate those needs into R code to perform and summarize the analyses. · Conduct outcome research studies, with an emphasis on survival and longitudinal analysis, hierarchical/mixed-effects models, and methods of causal inference with observational data. · Prepare deliverables including reproducible reports (like RMarkdown) or custom dashboards using tools like (R Shiny or OpenCPU). · Summarize statistical analysis, often with survey data, using tables or data visualizations and provide technical support for report automation. · Participate in the application of new data science methods. · Help with the data preparation and data cleaning for statistical analysis.


Basic qualifications:

· A Master's degree in Statistics/Data Science or a field with quantitative training with 2 years of relevant experience is required. · Demonstrable practical experience in statistical analysis and statistical learning. · Programming experience with R (including Shiny and R Markdown). · Practical knowledge of SQL.
Experience with SAS will be helpful but not necessary.  Experience with version control using git and experience in the analysis of complex survey data is desirable. Ideal candidates will be able to work independently and in a team environment. Strong computational skills are required and experience with a diversity of statistical environments (including, but not limited to, R, SAS, Python, or Stan/Jags) is highly valuable. Strong written and oral communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences are essential.
