Starting Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience

The Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a talented leader to serve as Deputy Director of the Securities and Retail Franchising (SRF) Division.  This is a senior leadership and managerial position with primary responsibility for all regulatory, investigative, and administrative oversight of the Division. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing and analyzing laws and rules; directing and conducting research studies and position papers; participating in meetings and working groups of the North American Securities Administrators Association; presenting information concerning existing or proposed legislation to legislators and other interested parties; and communicating both directly and through prepared communications with regulated entities, legislators, and consumers.  Public presentations and some travel are required.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for this position include professional, senior-level leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to develop strategy with a “big picture” perspective. The ability to lead and manage staff to ensure results and deliverables are achieved is essential. Superb judgment and decision-making skills are required to successfully make quality and timely decisions. Candidates must have the ability to lead, inspire, coach and develop a high-performing team of employees to enable outstanding delivery of SRF and SCC services. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to build and maintain effective working relationships with SCC staff, industry personnel, trade representatives, the Virginia Legislature and the general public.  

Professional experience in the securities and franchising industry, or the regulation thereof is a plus but is not required. Educational background or experience in Business Administration, Finance, Economics,  Accounting or a related field is preferred.

Employees also shall report employment of household members by a regulated company. An incumbent of this position is required to complete the Statement of Economic Interests Form.

This position is classified in the SCC Salary Structure as a Grade P-16.  This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
