We are seeking a Software Architect 3 or 4 to join our team of qualified individuals. This position will be located in McLean, VA. The qualified applicant will become part of the (DOS) Consular Systems Modernization (CSM) Program, for the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA). This initiative is intended to modernize and consolidate the operational environment under a common technology framework in order to better support the services provided to CA's customers. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below. Roles and Responsibilities:Works with the Agile teams and Solution Architecture Team to determine the best approach ensure the overall software architecture supports the project Concept of OperationsSupports all Agile teams to ensure effective end-to-end capability threads are being implemented, focused on meeting the expectations for upcoming PI Solution DemonstrationsEnsures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraintsPerforms functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into software and infrastructure designs and specificationsLeads software design activities and provides critical contributions to software implementation, integration, and troubleshooting, including consideration for networking aspectsProvides technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by project management or the customerFrequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.The Software Architect reports to the System Team Manager; local travel may be required up to 10% of the time. Basic Qualifications:This requisition may be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4. BQs for a Software Architect 3 are Bachelor's Degree in a Computer Science or related field and 5 years of experience. BQs for a Software Architect 4 are Bachelor's Degree in a Computer Science or related field and 9 years of experience. To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:Experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle including analysis, design, implementation, test, integration, and maintenanceExperience designing secure, scalable, and extensible software architectures using UML design toolsExperience developing applications, services, and systems using Agile and Scaled Agile methodologiesExperience with relational database systemsExperience developing Java-based systems/services using test-driven development methodologyExperience developing web applications deployed to clustered application serversMinimum of 2 years' experience developing cloud-native container-based applications/servicesExperience with application lifecycle tooling, including those related to agile project management, version control, continuous integration, code scanning, automated testing, and issue trackingExcellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with demonstrated experience. preparing concept papers, briefings, trade studies, proposals, and similar documentsMust have a current, active Secret (or higher) clearance This position requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen. Must possess active Secret security clearance in order to qualify.
