    • Submit to and pass a polygraph examination prior to your appointment
    • Pass a drug test (urinalysis)
    • Certify you have registered with the Selective Service System if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, or certify you are exempt from having to do so under Selective Service law.

    You must demonstrate at least one (1) year of the defined specialized experience and meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR).

    Specialized experience is defined as performing such duties as:

    • GS-14: plans, coordinates, and conducts research and development projects for the solution of highly complex problems related in latent fingerprint detection, ink identification and dating, credit card analysis, image enhancement, counterfeit currency analysis, and forensic evidence tracking; assists in trial preparation for prosecution of criminal cases providing chemical analyses and scientific bases for the opinions; uses a variety of laboratory instruments and techniques (i.e., lasers and infrared, ultraviolet and monochromatic light sources); draft proposals, results of analyses, and evaluations, develop new standard and guidelines; and provides expert opinions, interpretations, and testimony.

    The Office of the Investigations, Forensic Services Division (FSD), is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all forensic science activities in the Secret Service to include the expert examination of questioned documents, fingerprints, papers, inks, and other related materials; the administration of a polygraph examination program conducted in the field offices nationwide; and the analysis and preparation of photographs/evidence for court appearances.
