Sentara Heart Hospital has 115 all-private rooms, 62 pre/post procedural rooms for patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures and several outpatient cardiac clinics.


Clinical Nurse Manager has 24/7 responsibility/ accountability for daily operations of a 20 bed cardiac surgical ICU with approximately 60 direct reports. Nurses manage critically ill patients that require intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple drug infusions, IABP therapy and CRRT and postoperative care for patients that have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, Valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, & Mechanical Circulatory Support devices i.e. Total Artificial Heart & Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), & various lung surgeries

Job responsibilities include:

Supervision of patient care for patient safety, high quality outcomes/care & exceptional patient/family experiences/staff mentorship

Developing &monitoring departmental budget, payroll processes, & purchasing equipment/supplies & achieve departmental/financial goals

Interviewing, hiring, developing, and retaining staff with the goal of developing a highly reliable work team

Teamwork/ collaboration with leaders

Candidates should have 5 years of Critical Care experience, cardiac surgery experience or transplant (kidney/Lung/Heart-surgical) along with one year of leadership/support leadership experience required and able to perform work assignments as needed for unit coverage and mentor/assist staff/serve as technical/clinical resource/has effective communication/ interpersonal skills

Responsible for interviewing, hiring, developing and retaining staff with the goal of developing a highly reliable team. Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills to achieve unit and corporate goals. Assists in the development and monitoring of unit budget, coordinates purchasing and payroll processes and serves as a clinical resource to team members.

RN-Bachelor's Level Degree

Required: Nursing - 3 years, Nursing Leadership - 1 year
