Job Description Leidos is seeking a talented Software Engineer Intern, located in our Arlington, VA office. The position involves research and software prototyping of automated information extraction and data analytic technology. The broad area of research is called cognitive computing (which includes human language technology, natural language processing, machine learning, computational linguistics, knowledge representation, signal processing, artificial intelligence, and high performance computing) using heterogeneous data (electronic text, images, video, and audio) as a multiplier to aid human analysis. The intern will perform a combination of accelerated research, structured evaluations of algorithms andor scientific approaches, software design and prototype implementation, researchprototype verification, and research presentation. Education and Experience -Must currently be pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Mobile Computing, Cloud Computing, Computational Linguistics, Computational Social Science, Behavioral Economics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or System Engineering, and have at least a 3.0 GPA. -The candidate must have at least two-years of academic or professional software development experience in a modern software development language (such as Java, Ruby, Python, etc ) -Additionally, the candidates must have demonstrated familiarity with at least one of the major database types to include relational databases, graph databases, NoSQL databases, or NewSQL databases. -Must have the ability of obtaining a DoD Security Clearance, US Citizenship required. Required Skills -Demonstrated ability with programming in Java, Ruby, Python language, etc. -Ability to learn quickly. -Aptness working alone and in a team environment. -Capacity to communicate well in long hand, texting, speech, etc. -Facility to read, comprehend, and summarize published research papers. -Competence in critical thinking, listening, and asking questions. -Proficiency in receiving and delivering feedback. -Understanding of programming concepts (eg, class, method, hash, array, lists, struct, event handler, regression test, asynchronous requests, software development lifecycle, user stories, acceptance testing, application logging, etc.) -Experience with designing and programming user interfaces -Capability to read and write HTML, XML, delimited text, and JSON files Desired Skills -Familiarity with relational database systems such as MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Mongo, NuoDB, PostgreSQL or GraphDB -Understanding of JavaScript
