TRANSPORT TOPICS , the transportation industry's award-winning news weekly and website covering trucking and freight transportation, is seeking a Content Manager to edit content for print, publish it to the Web and distribute it via social media and newsletters . The position requires the skillset of a news copy editor focusing on business and government stories with the technical savvy of a web producer. This position is located in our Arlington, Va., headquarters. The role has no supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. Primary Responsibilities: Reads and corrects all content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, AP Style, accuracy, clarity and consistency for all TT publications and digital products, ensuring timely and accurate turnaround of content. Writes compelling headlines and captions for print and digital platforms. Works with all three Managing Editors (Multiplatform, Print and Features) and the photo editor, video editor and graphic designer to develop complementary web components for articles. Coordinates daily with the print production department and the Managing Editor/Multiplatform to ensure that all components are properly connected to each story. Ensures all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels of content print, online, newsletter, social, mobile, video, etc. Works with reporters, freelancers and editorial assistants on the crafting of stories and development of all content for all Transport Topics products. Shares content on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube in a creative, engaging manner that attracts an audience. Develops working knowledge of important issues for the trucking industry to ensure and improve the quality and consistency of news products. Ensures that all documents meet established content standards and assesses any technical challenges in displaying the content. Works in and understands the Falcon and Drupal editing and publishing systems. Knowledge and Skill Requirements: BA/BS in journalism or English plus two years' copy editing and writing experience required; or in lieu of degree, five years of editing and writing experience. Previous editing and publishing experience, including creating content for digital, particularly at news organizations, is strongly preferred. Excellent editing skills as well as communication both written and oral. Proficiency in Microsoft Word required; familiarity with Drupal and Falcon desired. Working knowledge of AP Style. Ability to multitask and prioritize; must be able to judge news quickly. Proven experience with social media required and video desired. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.
