As the entity Patient Safety Officer, this role in collaboration with the health system, is responsible for providing a clear vision and operational direction for Patient Safety. This role will receive “Direction” (degree of supervision); promote Just Culture/application of the Just Culture algorithm; the design of a structure/environment with metrics to improve the safety/reliability of the care we provide (including but not limited to infection prevention and pharmacy/therapeutics, etc). Risk management responsibilities include implementation, coordination, and effectuation of the Risk Management program, in coordination with the legal department, including loss control programs, claims management, proactive monitoring of patient safety issues, management of the patient complaint, and grievance process.
Work Schedule:
- In collaboration with the health system's Quality and Patient Safety Council, creates a clear vision of an effective patient safety culture, with an emphasis on systems to prevent patient harm
- Develops and implements initiatives to create an appropriate patient safety culture using the Just Culture Algorithm and transparency as the foundation of this effort; promotes the Culture of Safety Survey. Conducts an annual assessment of patient risks and works closely with key stakeholders to develop annual patient safety goals
- Monitors key patient safety indicators with a focus on prevention and continuous improvement
- Coordinates Risk Management activities, serving as a resource person to hospital team members, medical staff, in-house and external counsel regarding medical malpractice, general liability, and safety issues in an effort to minimize financial loss from claims
- Directs the assessment, implementation and education of hospital team members regarding safe practices, prevention of malpractice, general liability, and safety issues to minimize financial loss from claims
- Functions as a liaison among the hospital and outside entities, including local, county, state, federal and licensing agencies, working collaboratively to promote a positive image of the hospital in the community
- Oversees patient complaint and grievance process
