Job Details

Develops, implements, and presents educational programs dealing with life safety issues for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department's Life Safety Education section. Other duties include:
  • Delivers presentation programs to preschool children, preschool program staff, parents, senior program staff and senior adults.
  • Schedules presentations for educational programs and coordinates field personnel to assist with presentations.
  • Writes responses to inquiries relating to program, monthly reports, brochures, and researches funding sources.
  • Maintains database for all types of presentations and evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Develops, produces, and updates curriculum for educational programs.
  • Orders and maintains inventory for materials used by the Every Step of the Way program.
  • Conducts annual evaluation of program to measure the overall effectiveness and plan for future development.
Schedule: This is a 40 hour a week regular position. The incumbent will have to work occasional evenings and weekends for presentation and/or fairs. Employment Standards MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:A valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite software, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience planning, implementing and presenting educational programs.
Experience working with preschool or elementary school age children.
Experience working with older adults.
Experience developing and delivering educational programs to high risk populations.
Experience administering fire safety education programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighting up to 50 lbs.; ability to stoop and bend for presentations and the ability to work with arms extended over the head for long periods of time for puppet shows. All duties are performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
