Fairfax County FMD Energy Division is a service oriented team focusing on energy management and improving comfort and maintainability of Fairfax County operated facilities. Duties include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and proactive improvement of Building Energy Management systems (BEMS) serving Fairfax County Government Facilities. Maintains databases, analyzes system operational issues, proactively monitors and identies and helps resolve HVAC system issues. Maintains system backups, assists in new construction of as a technical expert, will coordinate with project managers and other team members to identify and resolve high energy consumption facility issues, and identify HVAC systems operating outside design parameters. Provides remote support to HVAC and other technicians to help diagnose and resolve system issues. May conduct virtual tours of facilities and report status to appropriate persons for needed action during extreme weather conditions. Will spend most of the time working with BEMS systems. The Energy Management Division of FMD currently uses the following integrated building systems; Trane, Siemens, Delta, Tritium, Web Control, Lutron, GE, Crestron, Lime light, Building Logix. Most of these systems are based on Virtual servers but the duties will require accessing equipment located in buildings around the county. There is a high focus on network security and system resiliency. This position will be responsible to ensure contractors are following security protocols when working on BEMS systems.

Employment Standards EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus one year of professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.
Upon successful completion of four years of professional engineering experience,Engineer II employees are eligible for a non-competitive appointment to Engineer IIIwithin the engineering discipline for which they have been trained.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Possession of one Plan Review certification issued by the Virginia Department of
Housing and Community Development in either residential building, commercial
building, plumbing, electrical or mechanical is required within 12 months of appointment
for certain positions identified to the Department of Human Resources.
A current driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Note: This position is considered "Emergency Essential Personnel"

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining BEMS systems
  • Strong understanding of large and small commercial building HVAC systems and operation
  • HVAC license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires to attend off site training programs, must be able to access facility equipment rooms, attics and roofs. Must be able to climb ladders, must be able to communicate by telephone and computer, must have eye sight adequate to review engineering plans and must be able to discern color for review and monitoring of electronics systems. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
