  • For the GS 13: You must have at least one year of experience at the GS-12 level performing a full range of duties involved in conducting or reviewing Federal personnel background investigations for suitability and/or National security such as: Thorough review of Federal investigative material (e.g., reports, testimony, and documentary evidence) for accuracy and completeness, for compliance with law. Responsibility for the most difficult, sensitive, and complex cases. For example, the work involved conducting or reviewing Federal personnel background investigations with psychological issues or extensive criminal activity. Responsibility for mentoring and training junior employees. Acting as a team leader or supervisor for a work unit of professional, technical, and clerical staff. Responsibility for monitoring the quality of investigative work performed by others, preparing written critiques, and describing and monitoring any needed rework.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Relocation expenses will not be paid. Current OPM employees may qualify as an exception.

    The full performance level of this position is GS-13.

    In order to be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. In addition to the application and application questionnaire, this position requires an online assessment. The online assessment measures critical general competencies required to perform the job.

    The Category Rating Process does not add veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three," but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category.
