    SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS:  A background investigation will be required for all new hires.  Appointment will be subject to the applicant’s successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication.  Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for disqualification in the hiring process. The background investigation process conducted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very thorough.  Therefore  it is imperative that applicants exercise candor and honesty when answering background questionnaires, especially as it relates to arrest, employment, education, finances, illegal drug use, and/or other criminal history.  Falsification discovered in security documents or during the background investigation process may result in an immediate negative suitability determination or immediate revocation of your interim clearance (if applicable).

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    Bureau of Engraving and Printing has a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management that requires each investigator to have the required education or experience as follows:

    a. A college degree (bachelor's); or
    b. Four years of general experience; or
    c. Two years of specialized experience within the last 5 years; or
    d. One year of specialized Federal background investigation experience within last 5 years.

    General experience is progressively responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to problem solve, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions, plan and organize work and communicate effectively orally and in writing on a professional level.
    Specialized Experience is progressively responsible experience conducting general background investigations or as a local, state, military or Federal law enforcement officer.
    Specialized Federal background investigation experience is experience conducting background investigations for a Federal agency.


    Specialized experience:  For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    - Applying security, law enforcement and/or personnel security rules, regulations, policies, and standard procedures in order to gather facts, draw conclusions or recommend solutions to problems.

    OR 1 full year of graduate level education or a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement.
    OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

    Specialized experience:  For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    - Applying personnel security rules, regulations, policies, and practices in order to gather facts, draw conclusions or recommend solutions to problems. AND
    - Establishing and maintaining effective partnerships and communication regarding personnel security investigations.

    OR
    You may qualify with a Master's or equivalent graduate degree
    OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.
    OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

    Specialized experience:  For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    - Applying personnel security rules, regulations, policies, and practices in order to gather facts, draw conclusions or recommend solutions to problems. AND
    - Establishing and maintaining effective partnerships and communication regarding personnel security investigations. AND
    - Review reports and investigations for indications of improper activities and identifying potential problems.

    OR You may qualify with a Ph. D. or equivalent graduate degree
    OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR LL.M., if related.
    OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

    Specialized experience:  For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    - Applying personnel security rules, regulations, policies, and practices in order to gather facts, draw conclusions or recommend solutions to problems. AND
    - Establishing and maintaining effective partnerships and communication regarding personnel security investigations. AND
    - Review reports and investigations for indications of improper activities and identifying potential problems. AND
    - Conduct security surveys, audits, or project reviews to identify work-related errors or security issues.

    In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
    For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks.
    For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks.
    For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-09 level for 52 weeks.
    For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.

    The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

    - The facility shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. Employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    - A one year probationary period may be required.
    - Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
    - If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
    - Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
    - Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
    - Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
    - Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
    - Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
    - Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis
