    This position is designated as High Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.

    You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.

    Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate

    GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

    1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
    2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
    3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
    4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

    We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:

    To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as planning and executing IT security assignments; developing new IT security methods, approaches or procedures; and evaluating and providing recommendations concerning an organization’s compliance with IT security requirements.

    Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:  

    -Knowledge of IT security protocols, policies, procedures and methods

    -Ability to develop, implement and/or coordinate activities for the protection and restoration of IT systems services and capabilities

    -Skill in developing and providing guidance for the implementation of IT security policies in the development and operation of network systems

    -Ability to develop recommendations on information systems security protocols impacting agency IT policies or programs

    -Ability to develop and implement IT security training and education programs

    -Skill in written communication to lead and/or participate on inter-agency workgroups or committees involving systems administration issue or changes and to prepare presentations, systems documentation, and reports;

    -Ability to manage contracts including preparing procurement requests and monitoring technical performance.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    This position is in the bargaining unit.

    Position has portable work and selectee may be authorized to telework after meeting eligibility requirements if approved by the supervisor/manager.
