    SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS:  A background investigation will be required for all new hires.  Appointment will be subject to the applicant’s successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication.  Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for disqualification in the hiring process. The background investigation process conducted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very thorough.  Therefore  it is imperative that applicants exercise candor and honesty when answering background questionnaires, especially as it relates to arrest, employment, education, finances, illegal drug use, and/or other criminal history.  Falsification discovered in security documents or during the background investigation process may result in an immediate negative suitability determination or immediate revocation of your interim clearance (if applicable).

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    You must meet the minimum basic educational and/or work experience requirements for professional engineering positions in the federal government.

    1.  Earned a bachelor's degree or higher in professional engineering. The curriculum was: (1) in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) included differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. (0) 

    2. Have a combination of education and experience which includes college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: Professional registration, Written Test, Specified academic courses, or Related curriculum. 

    AND

    Specialized experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes ALL of the following:

    - Experience developing and establishing long and short-range program goals and objectives and their requirements; AND
    - Experience in mechanical or electrical design engineering with a focus on engineering, and technology development; AND
    - Experience leading an interdisciplinary engineering team on projects to meet tactical and strategic needs; AND

    Experience in real-time systematic and analytical problem solving on equipment or products. This includes experience in a structured approach to diagnose and establish root cause of problems and corrective actions.


    In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:

    For the GS-15, you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks.

    Education Requirements:

    The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    - A one year probationary period may be required.

    - Work may be performed in a production environment which may require safety clothing and/or equipment. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
