Job Description:

The Center for Hospitality and Culinary Management (CHCS) program at Howard Community College (HCC) is seeking a culinary arts chef instructor with a history of significant industry management and restaurant experience.

HCC offers quality degree and certificate programs in Culinary and Hospitality Management. Daytime, evening and weekend courses. The HCC programs have both American Culinary Federation (ACF) and Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) accreditation. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the work of the College to maintain and deliver the courses exemplifying these standards.

Successful candidate will be responsible for culinary management curriculum development, instruction and outcome assessment. Ability to provide relevant and long-lasting experiences through measurable outcomes within program goals is paramount.

Applicants must be willing to teach day and evening lectures and lab courses in culinary and hospitality management and also assist department chairperson with program marketing and student recruitment. Faculty member must also engage in general college responsibilities within and outside the division. Successful candidate will have proven leadership skills to ensure program quality and to respond to the needs of the community. Successful candidate will assist the Department Chair in management of department resources, and the college academic and budgetary processes, as well as oversee and support department staff. Collaboration with college staff and coordination of processes for student-run restaurant is also a part of this position.


Requirements:

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in restaurant management or culinary arts
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in culinary and/or restaurant management field
  • Must have knowledge of restaurant management, marketing, food service costs, and culinary arts
  • Teaching or related field experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; strong presentation and interpersonal
  • skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with others, including staff, faculty, students, and industry professionals
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with Canvas, preferred


Additional Information:

Hours Per Week: 37.5
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
Compensation: Competitive salary - commensurate with experience plus excellent health insurance, paid leave and tuition reimbursement
Rank: To be determine, based on experience and education
FLSA Status: Exempt
