    Specialized experience: is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.  To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.  Candidates for the GS-13 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. 

    Specialized experience is defined as having experience: 1. Managing environmental programs related to hazardous materials abatement and broad environmental protection projects. 2. Developing strategic plans for monitoring and evaluating projects and programs to achieve and maintain environmental compliance of on-going operations. 3. Conducting environmental studies to determine corrective measures for remediating environmental deficiencies.  4. Serving as Contracting Officers Technical Representative to ensure accurate and adequate oversight of contractor performance. 

    For Engineers:

    This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

    The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

    (a) current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico;

    (b) evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination or the written test required for professional registration;

    (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that are fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum; or

    (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field.

    For Physical Scientists:

    This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.  OR Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
