  1. Thorough understanding of the principles, concepts, and methods of legal research and analysis, including in the areas of procurement law, contract law, appropriations law, ethics law, employment law, Federal taxation, and other areas of the law necessary to the Court's operations.
  2. Written communication skills in a variety of formats and lengths, including memoranda, reports, emails, and correspondence.
  3. Oral communication skills in a variety of formal and informal contexts, including information-gathering interviews, oral presentations, group and one-on-one discussions, and participating in and leading a project team.
  4. Familiarity with the GAO Redbook, the Federal Acquisition Regulation and/or the Guide to Judiciary Policy, and Government employment practices.

Applicants must meet all qualifications and time-in-grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for the full performance level (GS-15), applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position.

Applicants must be admitted to and practice before the highest court of a State or the District of Columbia and be in good standing.

Other Information:

  • The U.S. Tax Court requires employees to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial employees.
  • Employees of the U.S. Tax Court serve under excepted appointments and are considered "AT WILL" employees.
  • Employees will be required to complete a 52-week probationary period.
  • Males must abide by Selective Service registration requirements.
  • Favorable suitability determination - Selection of this position is contingent on a favorable suitability determination and security background check, to include credit check, Federal income tax check and criminal check. A candidate selected for this position must be current on his or her Federal income tax obligations before employment with the Tax Court, and remain current at all times while employed by the Tax Court. Continued employment post appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of the background investigation and credit check, and favorable adjudication. A background reinvestigation or supplemental investigation may be required at a later time.
