  • The position is considered weather essential and is required to report to work in all weather condition, even when the rest of the Government is closed due to weather.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision-identifying mechanical operating problems on heavy earth moving mobile equipment; repairing and overhauling many types of heavy mobile equipment with complex state-of-the-art electrical and electronic systems; and utilizing electronic diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical issues.Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. The employee frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds or puts forth similar strenuous effort while standing, lying, or sitting. The employee often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of others or lifting devices.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. Inside work is in a well-lighted, heated, and vented garage building. Outside work may be performed adjacent to the garage building or in the field. Field assignments involve exposure to temperature extremes common to the normal construction season, and to generally unfavorable working conditions in as much as most heavy equipment repair in the field. The nature of the work is dirty, greasy, and noisy. The use of hand tools in cramped areas and while in awkward body positions (bending, prone, or reaching) subjects the worker to possible cuts and bruises to hands and arms.
