Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

    OR

  2. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the Basic Requirement applicants must meet the following:

Specialized Experience:Applicant must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 (ZP-II at NIST), Specialized experience is defined as (1) Experience with designing and synthesizing new organic and organometallic compounds to be used as probes (2) Experience with optical spectroscopies and imaging techniques such as HPLP AND GC (3) Experience with NMR, IR, AND UVVis spectroscopy used to characterize fluorescent small molecules (4) Experience with DFT techniques to model, design and predict the fluorescence of small molecules.

A Masters or Equivalent Graduate Degree

A combination of Education and Experience

A 1-3 year probationary period may be required.
