An Overview
The City of Alexandria's Workforce Development Center (WDC), a proud partner of the American Job Center (AJC) network, offers employment and training services to job seekers and staffing solutions to businesses. We support Alexandria's businesses by providing labor market information consultation as well as sourcing candidates who are skilled and ready to work. Job seeker services at WDC include access to a Career Center, career readiness workshops, career assessments and customized hiring events as well as eligibility based financial assistance for vocational training to earn industry recognized credentials in high demand occupations.
 
The Employment & Training Specialist in the Business Services Unit connects job seekers, primarily those targeted for the Information Technology (IT) / Cybersecurity (Cyber) industry, with employment and training, and other economic safety net services at the WDC and other community partners. The work includes developing employment opportunities for program participants including the Virginia Initiative for Employment and not Welfare (VIEW) program. The position will provide welcoming, integrated, culturally and linguistically competent and responsive services focused on job seekers' strengths. The incumbent works across programs and partners' services to support the long-term economic self-sufficiency of individuals and families, and coordinate service navigation from a variety of entry points. The incumbent will coordinate service navigation at entry points with a primary focus in the IT / Cyber industry.  The work includes providing recruitment services to businesses, developing employment opportunities for job seekers; interviewing and assessing barriers to employment; and providing employment counseling and job placement assistance.  In addition, Employment and Training Specialists establish and maintain relationships with businesses and other community partners for provision of services.
