Summer Student Position - Engineering Aide or GIS Aide

Fairfax Water is currently accepting applications for summer intern positions. Employment will begin on either May 13, May 27, June 10, or June 24, 2019 and you may continue to work until August 16, 2019 as last work day of program.
Engineering Aide, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM work schedule
Position will perform technical wok in connection with the installation of water facilities during the land development process by:
-Assisting with the review of development plans to determine connections points, preliminary alignments, and requirements for water service to proposed developments
-Researching documents, land records and as-builts relating to water facilities
-Preparing schematics and other graphical representations of water facilities
-Researching, compiling, and formatting information related to water mains and easements.
-Position requires the ability to read and interpret water systems maps and constructions plans.
-General knowledge of Microsoft Office products is required.
-Some familiarity with CAD is helpful.
GIS Aide, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM work scheduleThe position will use ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop software to assist in the maintenance of data within an Enterprise GIS. This position will provide assistance and support for the data review of auto-generated water service laterals, support the data collection and review of Global Positioning System (GPS) data points and assists with linking as-built drawings to Fairfax Water's existing system maps.
- Candidate should have experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and relating them to existing GIS data.
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office products in required.
- Some familiarity with ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop software is helpful.
The following qualifications are required for each position in addition to the specific requirements listed for each position:
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student at a college, university or trade school for the upcoming fall to qualify for the program.
- Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing
- Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening
