    Students will be evaluated based on a comparison of the quality and extent of their education as reflected in their resume against the requirements of available positions.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    To qualify at the GS-05 level:

    EDUCATION: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school education leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

    To qualify at the  GS-07 level: 

    EDUCATION: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement* Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.

    *Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA).

    Superior Academic Achievement is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.

    1. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision based on completed courses.
    2. Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: a. 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed
      based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or b. 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the
      average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
    3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed below.
      These honor societies are listed by the Association of College Honor Societies.

    NOTE: One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of
    full-time study. One year of education is typically defined as two semesters (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours)

    Managers within the various business units of ITA may consider and utilize the certificate with the remaining referred candidates to fill vacancies within their business unit.

    Interns may be converted to a permanent (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program. Program requirements for conversion include:

    • Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program.
    • Complete their degree or certificate requirements.
    • Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted.
    • Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement.
    • Perform their job successfully.

    This appointment may continue until the selectee earns 640 work education hours AND education program requirements have been completed, at which time the individual may, at the agency's discretion, be converted to a term or permanent appointment. Pathways intern are not conferred any rights nor guarantee for conversion at the end of the appointment.

    Upon successful completion of the Pathways Internship Program and completion of their academic degree or Certificate program, individuals may be noncompetitively converted to a Term position or permanent position in the 0343 series with an established career ladder GS-0343-07/09/11/12/13.
