Primary Purpose

The EMMES Corporation is seeking a Summer Intern currently enrolled in a degreed program, preferably as a rising senior with an interest in securing a regular full-time staff position upon graduation. The Summer Intern will be provided applied learning opportunities with meaningful real-life, hands-on work experience in support of improving public health. This is a full-time paid internship at up to 40 hours per week; the internship commences on May 28, 2019 and will be completed on August 16, 2019.

Interns at Emmes perform a variety of research, database and clerical duties of a routine and technical nature to support project staff in compiling clinical research data. Interns at Emmes are primarily responsible for the collection, aggregation, and analysis of data. Interns may carry out other duties such as data entry along with administrative duties including filing and photocopying. Interns at Emmes are provided with informal and formal mentorship opportunities with a strong focus on building work skills, with a goal of future placement as a full-time regular staff upon graduation.

This position will support one or more studies within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease (VID) research team that provides data management and statistical support for more than 200 clinical research studies, domestically and internationally. The VID group supports infectious disease research across a wide range of disease areas, including: Malaria, Tuberculosis, Influenza, Ebola, MRSA, STI and Enteric pathogens, and emerging infectious diseases. VID supports Phase 1-4 clinical trials investigating vaccines and treatments for bacterial, viral, and parasitic agents, as well as epidemiological studies. Primary services include statistical design and analysis; bioinformatics support; implementation of Emmes’ proprietary software for electronic data collection, data management, and electronic specimen tracking; preparation of study-related materials and web site development; generation of safety, regulatory, and final reports and manuscripts; clinical site training, assessment, and technical assistance; and study communication and collaboration.


    Responsibilities may include assisting with the generation and review of technical reports and documents including work with data tables, figures and listings Participate in inputting and managing data for clinical trials Perform data audits and quality control review of databases, web sites and spreadsheets Provide administrative and coordination support including copying, filing and other related tasks Attend and contribute to team meetings, including working to set and achieve project timelines and deliverables Apply and/or learn relevant work skills towards assignments to prepare for potential future hire within a relevant research area of Emmes Perform other duties as assigned

    Current enrollment in an accredited degree program; rising senior status with an interest in returning to Emmes as a future full-time regular staff member strongly preferred Ability to apply problem solving, organizational and analytical skills both within group and individual settings Demonstrated high attention to detail along with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workloads Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 products and basic office equipment including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, Copying, and Scanning Strong oral and written communication skills including writing, proofing, and editing Previous Clinical Research and/or Public Health experience within an academic or professional work environment desired
