1. Knowledge of contemporary management principles and practices.
2. Ability to lead and participate in a complex horticultural program.
3. Skill in performing horticultural support tasks, to include communication and education.

Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria: Must have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or equivalent major, with 30 semester hours of coursework in botany, plant physiology, plant taxonomy, plant pathology, genetics, agronomy and horticulture. Must have completed 16 semester hours of coursework in the breeding, care, management, production, and post-harvest handling of horticultural crops.

OR

The same specialized courses completed, with equivalent work experience substituted for the remaining degree requirements.

Must be able to climb, and to work daily in areas above 90 degrees F and below 32 degrees F.  Must be able to work in areas which are wet, dirty and dusty.  Incumbent is subject to burns, cuts, falls, and insect stings, as well as requirements to stoop, bend, stand, lift or kneel for extended periods.

 "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration under merit promotion procedures.
