The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), a national nonprofit, membership organization has an immediate full-time opening for an experienced building mechanic at our national headquarters located near the White House. The Maintenance Mechanic reports directly to the Building Superintendent.                                                                                                          

The NSDAR headquarters is a historic landmark and multi-level building complex comprised of over 300,000 square feet, including historic DAR Constitution Hall and Memorial Continental Hall, which was originally built in 1905.

The maintenance mechanic will be responsible for full operation and performance level of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems throughout the NSDAR building complex.

HVAC duties include monitoring, troubleshooting and repairing systems to provide exact temperature levels in special conditions; identifying and repairing electrical and mechanical problems in air conditioning systems, such has compressors, refrigerant controls, valves and controls to protect against overload or overheating. 

The incumbent will be responsible for performing system inspections and scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical, air conditioning/refrigeration systems and equipment, including other related equipment, such as direct digital controls, and for accurately identifying system or equipment malfunctions.

Electrician duties include modifying, repairing, troubleshooting, loading and testing new or existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment, and uses technical guides and diagrams to detect issues and resolve deficiencies.

Plumbing duties include modifying and repairing plumbing and other wet-type systems such as utility, supply and disposal systems, identifying plumbing zones and shut-down valves, testing and making needed adjustments to systems and equipment for proper operation, flow, drainage and sanitary conditions. 

As a key member of the building and facilities team the maintenance mechanic will also be expected to jump in and work with staff on building maintenance projects, furniture moves, the NSDAR’s annual membership convention, and other miscellaneous building/facilities related activities. 

Required Qualifications

  • Maryland Steam Engineering License or DC 6th Class License
  • Refrigeration Journeyman Mechanical license a plus
  • CFC certification
  • Minimum 3 years of plant operations of HVAC systems, such as chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, and basic electrical.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Work experience and knowledge in LEEDS energy management and operations a plus
  • Must possess a valid automobile operator’s license to operate company vehicle.
