Budget Specialist

George Mason University’s, Early Identification Program is looking for a dynamic and energetic professional to serve as Budget Specialist. Responsibilities: The Budget Specialist will coordinate all financial functions underpinning the service mission of EIP, including budget oversight, EPAF/time sheet creation, and purchase card compliance for the department. The Budget Specialist will help to ensure compliance to both Office of Sponsored Programs and University Advancement budget and spending guidelines. The Budget Specialist will provide support to director and staff in preparation of budgets, facilitate forecasting, and monitor spending to ensure the fiscal health of the Early Identification Program.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree with major/focus in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or business administration; or a combination of education and experience.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; strong oral/written communication skills; knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software; accounting and/or book keeping skills; ability to create and help implement budgets; ability to safeguard confidential information; excellent attention to detail, including the ability to review documents and other work and make corrections; ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure; ability to supervise, train and motivate a student employee; ability to serve students/clients effectively and develop systems to streamline budgeting and accounting practices; ability to work effectively with colleagues of diverse work styles and preferences; exceptionally strong organizational skills.

Considerable skills in creating spread sheets, preparing graphs and charts, along with the ability to perform a variety of fiscally related assignments such as budget review, document flow, fiscal planning. He/she must be able to comprehend/interpret/develop policies and procedures related to state and university spending guidelines.
