Position Description - The Mediation Program of the D.C. Circuit is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Specialist. The U.S. Courts of the District of Columbia Circuit offer alternative dispute resolution services in selected cases to enable parties in litigation to resolve their cases. The Mediation Program is responsible for program administration, screening eligible cases, overseeing a volunteer panel of accomplished lawyers who are also trained mediators, assigning cases to mediators, and monitoring and evaluating mediation cases. This position provides clerical and administrative staff support to the Chief Circuit Mediator and Circuit Mediator to ensure efficient management and operation of the program. This position is ideal for individuals considering law school or with an interest in alternative dispute resolution.

Qualifications - Candidates must show experience that demonstrates (1) the ability to show attention to detail, manage multiple tasks, and maintain a positive attitude; (2) computer knowledge and skills; and (3) strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

Experience and Education - General clerical, office, or other work experience that demonstrates the possession of, or the ability to acquire, the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position is required. For the higher classification, a minimum of one year of specialized experience that demonstrates progressively responsible clerical or administrative skills is required. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor’s degree or paralegal experience is preferred.

Salary Range - $40,727 - $73,128 (CL 24 – CL 25) depending on qualifications, experience, and education.

Position Location - Washington, D.C. Position Type – Full-Time

Conditions of Employment - Applicants must be a United States citizen or eligible to work in the United States. Employees of the federal courts are excepted service appointments. Excepted service appointments are “at will” and may be terminated with or without cause by the court. The candidate selected for the position will be hired provisionally pending the results

of a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required.
