At WUSA9, TEGNA Media's CBS affiliate in Washington, DC, we're looking for a photographer who wants to break out of a traditional format. We want highly-skilled, artistic photographers who can create sharable and exciting content for all the platforms we serve in the style that our audiences expect them on each of those platforms (TV, website, app, social, YouTube, OTT). We want photojournalists who can tell great stories on their own or in a team environment. We want someone flexible enough to get to the scene fast and gather the basics in real-time but detailed enough to build their own story from abstract concepts. Our ideal candidate is familiar with the latest storytelling techniques and tools for Social Media as well as TV. The right candidate is also proficient with live news gathering tools and online streaming, which is a larger part of our news-gathering operation than broadcast live shots. In this role, you will: Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great storiesProduce original content on-air and on all digital platforms that can compellingly evoke emotion, but inform our audience of complex concepts.Post daily on all digital platforms, including attaching images and streaming video. Must include active Social Media presence.Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance storiesContact sources and develop news stories. Cover breaking, general, sports, feature, investigative, and political news stories. Produce news stories that are unique and captivatingAttend editorial meetings, participate in discussions, and suggest story ideasEdit and post video and text content stories for websiteDevelop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interestOperate news gathering vehicle to and from various locationsPerform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer Here's what you need: BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field2-5 years of experience preferredExperience in photojournalism, non-linear editing, and content management systemsUnderstanding of different styles of photography that aren't just traditional news-gathering techniques (Social media, longform, documentary)Basic familiarity with Motion Design and infographic style presentation is a mustExperience presenting data visually using Adobe After Effects templates preferredProven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live content on digital and TVDemonstrated social media proficiency, especially in the field, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and FacebookDSLR familiarity a plusFamiliarity with YouTube and OTT distribution methodsMember and active participant in NPPA preferredSNG experienceDemonstrated news judgment, writing skills and photography experienceMust be flexible with schedule, reliable and dependableUnderstanding of the tenets of professional journalismAbout TEGNA TEGNA Inc.
