50% or less - The travel requirements normally result being away from home 50% of their time with trips averaging at times two to three weeks over a monthly period. Routine travel is also required for training and other meetings.

  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR THIS VACANCY:

    1. Must not have reached your 38th birthday prior to employment. (NOTE: This does not apply to applicants already in the GS-1811 series or to "preference" veterans.)
    2. Must pass a pre-employment medical exam and drug test. Subject to random drug testing thereafter. Failure to pass or refusal to take subsequent tests could result in non- selection or disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the Federal service. 
    3. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (top secret equivalent).
    4. The position is designated as a security high risk position and therefore is subject to selection for counterintelligence evaluation which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination. 
    5. Must carry and remain proficient in the judicious use of firearms.
    6. Will be required to travel 50% of the time. 
    7. Will be designated as an as an emergency essential employee. Functions of this position are critical to agency operations in dismissal or closure situations.

    MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties of the position requires moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.  Position is designated as an emergency essential employee.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

     GS-11: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9) in federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:  experience in executive protection and criminal/protective intelligence investigative cases.

    If you are qualifying solely on education alone, you must have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M. if related.  If qualifying on education alone, you must submit transcripts with your application package.

    GS-12:  A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: experience in executive protection and criminal/protective intelligence investigative involving developing facts and evidence, conducting interviews and interrogations; and making arrests and conducting searches and seizures.

    There is no educational substitution for the Criminal Investigator, GS-1811-12 position.

    LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 922 (g)(91).) Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 1001.)
