Basic Requirements: in order to qualify for a Research Biologist (Computational), GS-401, you must meet one of the following:
A. Have a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university.
OR
B. Have a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, in order to qualify for a Research Biologist (Computational) at the GS-13 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting computational biology investigations for cancer research; developing computational models and algorithms for computational biology programs in developmental therapeutics, translational research, clinical trials and diagnostics development programs; collaborating with senior scientists to develop improved computational biology methodology for the conducting of research programs; participating in projects using biomedical data management systems and scientific software applications to manipulate and analyzing large data sets of information; modifying software to meet analytical needs of research projects.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
