The Therapeutic Nursery Program (TNP) is seeking a teacher's assistant to start in late August, 2018. The TNP is a specialized early childhood education program focused on children's social and emotional development. The Lourie Center specializes in supporting children with trauma histories, and supports children with a wide range of social and emotional needs.

The Teachers Assistant:
Works closely with the TNP Lead Teacher in the development and preparation of materials needed for classroom use.
Provide individual and small group instruction to children.
Assists the Lead Teacher in the implementation of therapeutic strategies for the children in the program.
Available for any crisis that may occur in and out of the classroom, including those that require physical support.
At least once per day, supports student transportation by riding in the TNP van. On the van, the teacher assistant provides a calm, supportive environment for the students and assists the van driver.
Records observational data on student behavior with the Lead Teacher's and multi-disciplinary team's input.
Able to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates in reflective supervision.
Assists in the preparation and clean-up of the classroom as per the needs of the curricular task and the needs of the children in the program.
Participates in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
Continues professional education in early childhood education or a related discipline by attending internal and external workshops, conferences and trainings.
Maintain professional boundaries with children, families, and colleagues.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher and Director. In the teacher's absence, the Teacher Assistant assumes the role and responsibility as discussed in advance.

Qualified Candidates will possess:
minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or other related discipline.
Basic knowledge of early childhood development is required.
Minimum of one year work experience with early childhood population is required (i.e.: camp counselor, child care work, college practicum experiences)
Must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment health screening, and TB test.
Must have an active BLS CPR card.
