    Natural Resources Management – Redding, California; Norman, Oklahoma; Elm Creek, Nebraska

    Rangeland Management – Alturas, California; Cedarville, California; Montrose, Colorado; Roswell, New Mexico; Elko, Nevada; Baker City, Oregon

    Forestry – Klamath Falls, Oregon

    Fish Biology – Fairbanks, Alaska; Washington, D.C.

    Wildlife Biology – Montrose, Colorado; Roswell, New Mexico; Washington, D.C.

    Additional selections may be made.

    Eligibility Requirements (must be met for the duration of the appointment):

    -Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, technical, vocational or trade school, two- or four-year college or university, graduate or professional school;

    -Must be taking at least a half-time academic course load leading to a degree or certificate. Note: A certificate program is defined as a post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum; AND

    -Must possess a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    GS-04: To qualify, you must have completed at least 2 full academic years of post-high school study OR an associate's degree.

    GS-05: To qualify, you must have completed at least four academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree OR have a combination of coursework that is equivalent to a major in any degree/academic program AND related experience.

    To receive consideration, you must be accepted, enrolled, or have completed a professional degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related discipline/academic program.

    Target positions have specific educational requirements for entry; thus, applicants must show evidence that their academic program will meet the requirements listed directly above (i.e., transcript reflecting enrollment in applicable discipline/academic program). Students who graduate without meeting those requirements may not be converted to a target position and could be separated from federal service.

    This internship will start in May/June 2019 and you must be a current student at that time.

    Housing will NOT be provided.

    Salary range as shown is for 2019 wage rates in the Rest of the U.S. (RUS). Specific wage rate will vary by location and may be higher or lower than the amount shown on the vacancy announcement. Please click here to search for a specific location on the General Schedule (GS) Pay Scale.

    If the position is filled at a lower grade level than the full performance, subsequent promotion to the next higher grade level is permissible without further competition; promotion is not guaranteed.

    The entire period served as a Career/Indefinite Intern counts as the trial period. Prior Federal civilian service is credited toward the completion of the required trial period in the same manner as prescribed in 5 CFR 315.802.

    CONVERSION ELIGIBILITY:

    Career/Indefinite Intern may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent or term appointment within 120 days of successful completion of program requirements.

    To be eligible for conversion, a Career/Indefinite Intern must:

    -Be a U.S. citizen;

    -Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program prior to graduation;

    -Complete a degree or certificate program from a qualifying educational institution;

    -Receive a favorable recommendation by supervisor;

    -Meet the OPM Qualification Standards for the position to which converted;

    -Meet any agency specific requirements as outlined in the Participant Agreement; AND

    -Perform the job successfully.

    Note: Agencies may waive up to 320 of the required 640 hours of work, exceptions can be found here.

    The permanent duty location upon conversion will be based on the availability of vacancies and at the discretion of management.

    If converted to a permanent or term appointment, the anticipated target position will be a Natural Resources Specialist (0401),Botanist (0430), Rangeland Management Specialist (0454), Forester (0460), Fish Biologist (0482), or Wildlife Biologist (0486), with a full performance level of GS-11; however, the target position and full performance level may change based on the need of the organization at that time. Must meet the qualification requirements for the position to which converted; minimum educational requirements for each target position are hyperlinked to the position titles above.

    Upon conversion, relocation assistance to permanent duty location may be available.
