Serving Protection and Preservation Services, provides clinical casework services for a caseload of children (and their families) who have experienced abuse/neglect or who are at-risk of abuse/neglect. Casework responsibilities include, but are not limited to: completion of comprehensive assessments and service plans, care coordination, crisis intervention, and brief counseling. Attends court hearings and provides professional and legal testimony as needed. Completes casework and documentation in compliance with federal, state and local policies and procedures. Develops partnerships with community agencies to provide a holistic approach to service delivery, guaranteeing collaboration and coordination of services offered to children and their families. Coordinates and attends intra-agency and inter-agency meetings. Uses automated information systems to maintain case documentation. Travels throughout the county for the provision of services. A flexible schedule including evening and/or weekend work may be required.

Note: This announcement may be used to fill multiple full-time Protection and Preservation Services Social Services Specialist II positions located throughout Fairfax County (Annandale, Alexandria, Fairfax, and Reston, Virginia).

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's license required upon hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in social work or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in either child protective services or on-going child protective services case management.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Driver's license or ability to efficiently access other means of transportation in order to visit clients in their homes and to meet with community service providers. Some positions may require oral and written bilingual competency in English and a second language. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sufficiently mobile to attend home visits, court, meetings, and community events outside the office. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to use automated technology. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
