Works as part of the Support Services Division of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department in the Meter Shop of the Resource Management Section. Helps direct the daily activities of the team and installs, calibrates, maintains, and repairs hazardous atmospheric monitoring instrumentation and other electronic safety and hazard warning equipment used by the Fire and Rescue Department. Schedules and performs inspection and calibration of all departmental equipment based on manufacturer and regulatory requirements. Investigates and analyzes equipment failures on electronic safety equipment via laptop and visual inspections. Completes reports and documents equipment maintenance findings. Performs inventory counts to ensure inventory accuracy and places orders for stock/supply replacement. Performs preventative maintenance and functional checks on assigned vehicle and equipment. Helps develop and train team members to perform all tasks. Responds to emergency incident scenes, Logistics Distribution Center (LDC), Department Operations Center (DOC), or the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during major incidents or catastrophic emergencies and performs National Incident Management System Incident Command System duties within the Logistics Section.

This position works an 8-hour day, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. Overtime, or increased work load may be required during major emergency events.

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education; completion of a vocation course in electronics, and five years of work experience related to the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial instrumentation or electronic/electrical equipment found in water or wastewater utilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid motor vehicle driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Appointee must complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated experience leading a team tasked with maintaining life-safety equipment, systems, or personnel;
Demonstrated experience using and maintaining Fire and Rescue hazard warning equipment;
Strong oral and written communication skills;
Ability to develop and maintains effective relationships with agency and vendor representatives;
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels;
Experience in Microsoft Office computer software applications and other PC-based programs/Ability to prepare succinct reports;
Demonstrated ability to function with minimal supervision;
Excellent work ethic and values-based initiative;
Experience working in public safety or life-safety critical mission support programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The ability to lift boxes, tools, and equipment weighing up to 60 pounds. Ability to use hand cart and operate a forklift. Ability to bend, stoop, stand, and sit for long periods of time. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
