Overview

Palladian Partners, an Altarum Institute company, seeks a full-time editorial operations manager to work at our Silver Spring, MD, headquarters. As a creative communications firm, we believe all people should have access to information in the way that they need it to help them live better, healthier lives.

In this position, you will use your outstanding editorial, management, and people skills as a key member of our Editorial Services department. You will make and coordinate writing assignments; recruit and supervise freelance writers; supervise editorial staff members; form productive partnerships with staff in other departments; develop budgets and time lines; coordinate the production of proposals; and provide senior-level editorial support.

Responsibilities

  • Make writing assignments, taking into consideration each writer’s background, expertise, and strengths and weaknesses
  • Coordinate writing support for scientific meetings, conferring with internal and external clients to gather project requirements and facilitating communication between writers and other staff members
  • Maintain a calendar of scientific meetings for which writing support is provided
  • Use a project management system to create and monitor the progress of writing and editing tasks
  • Recruit, manage, monitor workloads of, and build relationships with freelance writers and editors
  • Produce project budgets and time lines
  • Build strong working relationships with staff in our Conference Services and Strategic Communications departments
  • Coordinate the production of government proposals
  • Conduct “read-behinds” and other editorial QC tasks
  • Provide other writing, copyediting, and substantive editing support as needed
  • Supervise editorial staff members, and recruit, train, and mentor staff as needed
  • Keep up with software tools and editorial resources and make recommendations for the purchase of new software and resources
  • Work with other members of the Editorial management team to set standards for client deliverables and to develop and implement processes for continuous improvement of personnel and departmental performance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree a plus
  • 10 years of editorial experience, including writing, copy editing, editorial production, and project coordination, including working directly with internal and external clients
  • 3 years’ experience supervising staff, including training and mentoring
  • Experience developing budgets and project time lines
  • Impeccable eye for detail
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to keep multiple ongoing activities on deadline, in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with common editorial styles
  • Intermediate to advanced Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills
  • Passion for science and health
  • Innate customer service mentality

You’ll Earn Bonus Points if You Have:

  • ELS certification or diplomate status
  • Government contracting experience
  • Experience coordinating the production of government proposals
  • Familiarity with biomedical and health terminology
  • Written fluency in Spanish
