Learn more at position is responsible for overseeing the accounting for the Department of Education's student loan assets serviced by Navient, a Title IV Servicer; ensuring adherence to the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) requirements; accounting controls and procedures; and working collaboratively with other departments, Title IV Servicers and Federal Student Aid (FSA) staff. This position will focus on processes related to the Defaulted Loan transfers to DMCS and the Loan Consolidation program, which includes coordination of the monthly reconciliations, identification and resolution of issues and variances. The position requires advanced accounting and technical skills, excellent communication, proven leadership and effective time management. The position requires a Level 5C (High Risk) security clearance.1) Accountinga) Keep the Director apprised of all issues. Actively participate in meetings; provide timely delivery of requirements.b) Oversee the Loan Consolidation process and its impact to Loan Accounting. Elevate issues to the appropriate business areas; collaborating on issues until resolution. Represent Loan Accounting on internal and external FSA/TIVAS touchpoint calls.c) Ensure timely follow up and resolution to reconciliation variances.d) Coordinate the final DMSC reconciliations; analyze results and work with business partners on variance resolution.e) Summarize and document existing accounting issues for management; formulate and execute plan of actionf) Provide superior customer service to FSA staff2) Support Department Objectives/Customer Servicea) Provide support for multiple internal and external audits throughout the yearb) Provide superior customer service and prompt response to FSA inquiries. Support the company's goal of achieving a first place scorecard ranking by the Department of Educationc) Monitor variances; working with the business areas and IT to coordinate their efforts in resolutiond) Review mapping and procedure documentation to ensure they are current and to eliminate riske) Assist in the implementation of new program requirements and change requestsf) Prepare monthly DMCS Monthly Management Report.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:This position will support a federal government contract. Applicants must be able to obtain Public Trust security clearance as required of federal government contractors to include a background check conducted by the US Government to determine eligibility and suitability for federal contract employment for public trust or sensitive positions.For this level of clearance, applicants must possess US citizenship.* Bachelor's Degree - Accounting and Finance* 4 -- 5 years experience in a fast-paced accounting department* Complex general ledger accounting* Excellent communication skills* Expertise in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel* Excellent analytical skills
