Associate Director of Development, Mid Atlantic And Southeast - Office of Advancement

The Associate Director of Development, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast delivers strong pipeline development for the discovery, solicitation and gift closing processes.  The Associate Director establishes connectivity and philanthropic intent with both managed and un-managed prospects. She/he is responsible for all fundraising initiatives and will focus on identifying, soliciting, and building strong relationships with new major gift prospects, which will ultimately lead to significantly greater levels of support for Georgetown University. She/he has responsibility for all university fundraising initiatives and will also be responsible for helping to coordinate and execute on development-focused salon gatherings in the region.

The Associate Director of Development will design and execute strategies, focused on sub-regions in the Greater Washington and Southeast regions.  These strategies include cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of undergraduate alumni, parents of current undergraduate students, and alumni and non-affiliated constituents from the university's graduate schools, Law Center and Medical Center.  She/he will collaborate with Unit and Regional Development, Alumni Relations, Alliances, Donor Relations, Reunions, and Campaign Management teams to ensure that Main Campus fundraising and the Regional model of Advancement continue as strong drivers of overall fundraising efforts. In addition, they will ensure that donors at all levels are engaged with the university. It is expected he/she will spend at a minimum of 4-5 days per month traveling domestically to visit with current and prospective donors: alumni, parents, and friends.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting 120-140 visits per year to promote campaign priorities with the ultimate goal of building the pipeline of major gift prospects and securing the best gifts for Georgetown.
  • Making 10-20 asks at level per year.
  • Raising $500,000-$1,000,000 in Major Gifts annually.
  • Collaborating with Unit and Regional Development,  Planned Giving, Alumni Relations, Donor Relations, Reunions, and Campaign Management teams to develop engagement strategies for current and prospective donors throughout the region.
  • Managing targeted, development-focused gatherings to expose constituents to university faculty and administrators traveling in the region in an effort to develop and bolster strong philanthropic relationships and maximize gift potential.
  • Special Projects and other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Ideally 3-5 years of work experience, preferably in a development/fundraising environment and in a higher education setting
  • Strong knowledge of database, preferably with Salesforce.com
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft and Google cloud applications
  • Excellent writing skills, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong sense of customer service and a positive attitude

  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively in teams and with multiple staff members
  • Ethical behavior in handling confidential material with sensitivity and discretion
