Research Assistant Professor
The George Mason University, Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Science is looking for a focused and hard-working individual for our Research Assistant Professor Faculty position. Responsibilities: We are seeking an experimental research physicist to design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data for research on the use of quantum magnetometers for the detection and characterization of materials using nuclear quadrupole resonance techniques. This will involve class IV near-IR lasers, beam-shaping, and optical alignment; as well as high-power radio-frequency electronics, and radio-frequency spectroscopy conducted using a TecMag spectrometer. Familiarity with those instruments and their analyses is essential.
- Successful completion of a PhD in physics or closely related field;
- Expertise in nuclear quadrupole resonance for the detection of explosives, radio-frequency spectroscopy, and optically pumped alkali magnetometers;
- Multiple years of post-graduate research experience in zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance and quantum magnetometers, including successfully published research on radio-frequency multi-pass magnetometers as well as magnetometer arrays. Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Matlab and OriginLab is highly desired.
