Helios HR is seeking to hire a Director of Human Resources for our client that is the nations largest grassroots mental health organization located in Arlington, VA. Starting as small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979, our client has blossomed into the nations leading voice on mental health with more than 500 local affiliates who work in the community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. As the Director of Human Resources, you will be responsible for leading practices and objectives in order to provide an employee-oriented, mission focused culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, fairness, and compassion in the recruitment, development, and engagement of a superior workforce. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring Human Resource policies are developed, implemented, and continuously reviewed for cultural alignment and legal and ethical compliance, ensuring our client is managed to meet the highest standards of lawful practices and reduce risk. This role oversees the development and improvement of processes and programs that shape workforce strategies, lead targeted recruitment efforts, design staff orientation and trainings, manage the benefits program and compensation strategy, and implement policies governing employee relations and performance. Responsibilities Establishes HR policies and procedures that foster a culture of compassion, responsiveness, and dedication to mission. Establishes HR strategy that will be aligned with the board and overall strategic goals for the future. Develops processes and decision-making criteria throughout the talent management cycle that minimizes the potential for inherent biases and ensures a systemic view. Drives progress in diversity and inclusion in all aspects of HR practice, especially representation at all levels of organization and creating an inclusive work environment. Facilitates cross functional teams with appropriate training for facilitator and teams.Provides oversight of the recruitment function.Develops strategies for retention of talented staff and development of their skills, competencies, professional growth and career plans.Manages employee relations issues at all levels within the organization, through coaching, mediating and resolving disputes, developing creative solutions, coordinating and documenting investigations of complaints, and actions taken supporting risk mitigation and risk assessment management. Responsible for the administration and management of the employee benefits program. Provides guidance and assistance on various employee benefit plans, as well as surveys industry and/or community to determine competitive position in employee benefits. Develops, recommends, and institutes approved, new or modified plans and employee benefits policies. Develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to organization and employee. Uses and implements the latest research to improve performance and development reviews and practices throughout the organization. Creates pulse and annual surveys to measure staff engagement, recommends strategies for addressing areas needing attention and monitors progress toward improving scores. Establishes wage and salary structure and pay policies; recommends and oversees the variable pay systems within NAMI, including bonuses and raises.Responsible for the implementation of all salary changes and adjustments, using competitive market research to establish consistent, cost effective, and fair pay practices and following procedures for gaining approval for changes and adjustments as necessary. Works with COO and CFO to monitor legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resource functions and maintains policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Stays current on recent federal, state and case law changes and monitor labor law updates for changes that affect HR and works with counsel where needed. Develops and manages the Human Resources budget. May be required to work extended hours as necessary to accommodate organization's needs. Advanced degree required or bachelor's degree and equivalent experience. Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) Certification. 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in HR; mental health/social services/nonprofit background/education highly preferred. Demonstrates integrity and superior interpersonal skills, ensuring employees feel heard and respected. Knowledge of, and experience in, areas of HR such as employee relations, recruiting, employment law, compensation and benefits and organizational development. Ability to work in rapidly changing environment and advise on changing personnel needs.Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment when dealing with sensitive personnel matters. Proven track records of developing balanced solutions that protect the organization while staying focused on the unique needs of individuals and teams. Able to think and work strategically while remaining detail orientated. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to procure or deliver high quality training.Supervisory experience (will supervise HR Manager) #CB
