Finance Officer for Fulbright & Exchange Programs

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Student Taxes
- Overseeing international students tax process for all AMIDEAST students
- Working with Sprintax for determining students’ U.S. tax obligations and students’ completion of necessary tax returns
- Providing Non-Resident Alien tax guidance to AMIDEAST HQ and Field Office staff and students
- Reviewing IRS policies, tax treaties, forms, and procedures regularly and incorporating them in our internal Accounting processes
- Managing students’ W-7 Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) process for all students receiving non-qualified scholarship income in the U.S.
- Collecting Social Security Numbers, ITINs, and W-8BEN forms from incoming students
- Collecting Power of Attorney forms from departing students for authorization of deposits of IRS refund checks issued to students
Student Payments
- Monitoring and processing student disbursements, monthly allowances, and advance requests
- Reviewing and approving weekly AP vouchers and non-recurring payments for allowable student expenses per program policies and grant awards
- Managing financial databases to include all student/university payments and refunds, university insurance requirements, and university contact information
- Monitoring university tuitions payments and ensuring on time payment
- Communicating with university billing offices regarding billing errors, student account problems, student financial awards, and university health insurance requirements
- Assisting Fulbright Director and Program Staff in monthly monitoring of project financial reports to check and correct coding errors and anomalies
- Liaising with the Accounting Department to set up new project numbers, resolve coding, and create new financial processes or other issues as needed
- Maintaining and monitoring accurate participant financial records and student cost reports as well as performing annual audit of active student project accounts
- Supervising Financial Assistant and assisting as necessary with preparation of wire transfers, voucher processing, monthly credit card bill reconciliations, and other duties
- Responding to student financial inquires and issues
- Assisting in training new staff on financial and tax processes
- Additional special activities and responsibilities from time-to-time
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 year of experience
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
- Great research skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Interest in the Middle East & North Africa and/or International Education
- Experience working with students is a plus
