You must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure Requirement:
You must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental (JCNDE) or have passed former equivalent versions of the examination AND possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirement:
You must be able to distinguish shades of color with or without reasonable accommodations.
Additional Experience Requirement
In addition, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing at least 3 of the following types of tasks listed below:
- Overseeing a dental clinical research program by directing investigators, managing dental clinical trials, adhering to applicable research regulations (e.g., FDA) and the principles of good clinical practices (GCPs), including adequate human subject protection (HSP), and, developing dental protocols;
- Performing the required professional administrative functions (i.e., budget monitoring and budget requests, research proposal writing, acquisition proposals, personnel decisions, writing guidance and policy, and establishing goals and objectives) in order to maintain operations for a dental clinical research project team or equivalent;
- Overseeing a dental clinical program which conducts non-routine and complex dental procedures to support subjects involved in clinical research or clinical trials; and,
- Actively conducting dental clinical research and publishing research findings and clinical data in peer reviewed dental, medical, or scientific journals.

- This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
- A one-year supervisory trial/probationary period may be required upon selection/ placement.
- Title 38 pay is included in the salary of this position and is based on the physician's experience and field of expertise.
- A newly appointed or reappointed employee may receive service credit for prior work experience or active duty uniformed service that otherwise would not be creditable for the purpose of determining his or her annual leave accrual rate. All creditable service must be directly related to the duties of the position being filled and decisions to allow for such credit must be finalized prior to the selectee's entrance on duty.
