Managing Director - Steers Center for Global Real Estate, McDonough School of Business

The Managing Director will be responsible for partnering with the Center Director to advance the discipline of real estate at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business (MSB) through establishment of the Steers Center for Global Real Estate (the Center) as a pre-eminent Center for the study of real estate and education of young people.  The successful candidate will have a passion for real estate education and a genuine concern for the student.  Furthermore, the successful candidate will drive the mission of the Center which is to provide students with an industry-grade education that results in high quality job placement. The managing Director has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Continually evaluate the structure and operation of the Center to enhance prominence and productivity in the areas of community and alumni engagement, job placement, events and student experience.
  • Develop an organized co-curricular learning strategy that enhances overall student comprehension of the industry in a manner complimentary to the course curriculum.  This area is likely to focus on technical areas such as Excel and Argus Enterprise.
  • Mentor and assist students with career oriented matters - resume development and review, mock interviews, and advising on employment in the commercial real estate profession.
  • Continually evaluate the Center's approach to job placement to ensure the greatest exposure of Center students to employment opportunities.  Related, assist in the development of a DC-focused internship program that would allow Center students to work with local real estate companies during the academic year (i.e. Fall & Spring semesters).
  • Work with undergraduate- and graduate-level real estate clubs to assist with their programming (i.e., brain-storming ideas, contacting and scheduling guest speakers, setting up property tours, etc.).
  • Oversee Steers Center events throughout the academic year with a particular emphasis on the Real Estate Luminaries events in NYC and Washington DC.  The successful candidate will collaborate with the Director to craft the content of all events.
  • Work directly with the Steers Center Advisory Board to ensure proper stewardship and engagement of these essential members of the Center community with the objective of expending each individual's role within the Center.  
  • Work directly with the Center's media and marketing personnel to expand its visibility locally, nationally, and globally through innovative strategies.
  • Assist Georgetown's Advancement personnel in engaging the alumni, parent and friend community wherever each individual is at in their personal and professional careers with the long-term goal of continuing to build significant financial resources in the way of endowment and current use funding.  
  • Restructure and expand the Hoya Corporate Cornerstone program, which is the Center's corporate partnership program to further integrate high quality real estate companies into the Center's programming.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (MBA preferred) with minimum professional experience of 15 years in commercial real estate
  • Must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in young people
  • Experience and expertise in organizational behavior and with a high degree of comfort in navigating complex institutions
  • High degree of interest in thinking strategically and establishing plans that will lead to long-term success
  • Extroverted personality who is comfortable interacting with constituents ranging from first year analysts to CEOs
  • Must have an innate ability to lead through a collaborative and inclusive approach
  • The successful candidate must be naturally curious

Additional Distinguishing Qualities

  • Strong relationships with Washington, DC and/or New York real estate professionals
  • International real estate experience
  • University-level teaching experience
