  • This is a bargaining unit position.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided.
  • Employee is required to work a 72 hour week on a 24 hour on, 24 hour off basis which includes weekends and holidays. Subject to mandatory overtime and recall.
  • Position requires incumbent work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • GS06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade performing any of the following tasks: performing rescue operations; detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; operating fire communications equipment; and controlling hazardous materials incidents. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position.

    GS05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, governmental fire department brigade performing the following tasks: performing rescue operations or detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards.     For GS05 the incumbent must possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and Firefighter II. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. You MUST submit a copy of all certifications with your application package.

    For GS06 the incumbent must possess the following certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Technician, and Driver/Operator-Pumper and Aerial. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. You MUST submit a copy of all certifications with your application package.

    ***This position is a Primary Firefighter position and is covered under Special Firefighter Retirement. Title 5 U.S.C. 3307 authorizes the head of an agency to establish a maximum entry age for the original appointment of individuals to the position of primary firefighter. For initial appointments, applicants cannot have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. An applicant reentering into a Primary Firefighter position may have the maximum entry age adjusted based on prior covered Firefighter federal service. Applicants who are entitled to veteran's preference may be eligible for a waiver to the maximum entry age requirement.     For GS06 education may NOT be substituted for specialized experience.

    In lieu of specialized experience you may qualify at the GS05 level with the following education substitute:
    Successfully completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related field of study leading to a bachelor degree. OR
    Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

    Required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams.

    May be assigned to assume the duties and responsibilities in the absence of the Driver Operator or Lead Firefighter.

    Recruitment incentives may or may not be authorized to eligible new hires.

    A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may or may not be authorized.

    This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
