The Therapeutic Nursery Program (TNP) is a specialized early childhood education program focused on children's social and emotional development. The TNP integrates educational and therapeutic intervention to foster appropriate intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth. Children display a range of difficulties that include: hyperactivity, sensory processing deficits, excessive fears and anxiety, peer problems, depression, and aggressive behaviors. Many children have also experienced trauma related to: illness, abuse, divorce, and other early losses. The TNP is seeking a social worker to work in the classroom and in parent groups to support the children and their families.

The Social Worker:
Provides direct clinical services to families and children, including assessments and psycho-therapeutic interventions. Demonstrates actions and attitudes and RISES* values that contribute to the critical success factors of the organization (i.e. best place to work, most extraordinary experience, superior outcomes, financial success for reinvestment, valued as a faith-based organization, and a growing organization vital to the community).
Designs and implements classroom-based psycho-therapeutic services to enhance the quality of the parent-child attachment and to promote the socio-emotional and developmental growth of young children and their families. Assesses ongoing family functioning and family dynamics.
Prepares and conducts weekly group therapy to TNP children focused on social-emotional development.
Supports children in the classroom who may be in crisis.
Provides physical support, utilizing Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), including the Children's Control Position, when safety risks arise.
Provides assessment of TNP children and consults with TNP director and/or TNP psychiatrist for clinical emergencies to provide appropriate treatment intervention and coordination with professionals and TNP parents/guardians.
Conducts the Monthly Parent Coffee group to provide psycho-education and support to TNP parents.
Participates in training of student interns and trainees during their rotation in the TNP.
Participates in weekly team, supervision meetings, and interdisciplinary team meetings to assess progress of TNP children, formulate treatment goals, and develop ongoing treatment strategies.
Provides case coordination services to assigned families. Consults with other professionals working with the client; both at the Lourie Center and in the community. Refers TNP children and families to community agencies and programs as appropriate
Prepares written reports and attends meetings with school board, child welfare, and other legal agencies as requested by TNP parents/guardians or required by legal action
Participates in professional development through local and national conferences and maintain ongoing requirements for licensure.
Maintains TNP compliance and licensure in accordance with Maryland State regulations including Department of Human Resources, Child Care Administration, Child Care Licensing (COMAR 07.04.02) and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Mental Hygiene Regulations, Community Mental Health Programs - Therapeutic Nursery Programs (COMAR 10.21.18).
Maintains clinical charts, progress notes in compliance with policies and procedures. Implements clinical policies and procedures for service delivery in the TNP including treatment plans and updates, monthly notes, case management, implementation of the therapeutic interventions, and record keeping.
Accesses Protected Health Information on a routine basis. Employee must comply with all privacy standards of the Lourie Center that include HIPAA, COMAR and others - state and federal regulations as written in the Privacy Manual

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
•\tKnowledge of clinical mental health services especially with children and families.
•\tAble to physically manage children in CPI Children's Control Position or Team Control Position.
•\tKnowledge or human growth/development of young children, especially socio- emotional development
•\tAble to handle multiple tasks independently
•\tStrong people oriented and team skills
•\tAble to problem solve and anticipate needs of children

Qualified Candidates will Possess:
Master's degree in social work is required. Licensed or license-eligible at the LGSW level in Maryland. Some post-master's experience in providing individual, family and group psychotherapy is desirable.
Experience in working with high-risk families and young children.
Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
Work Schedule:


Monday - Friday 8am-4pm
