To qualify for the GS-4: Applicants must possess 1 year of general experience equivalent to experience in the federal service
2 years of education above high school
a combination of education and experience
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-4 and below.
In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must possess a 40 words per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificate by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Specialized experience includes:
Supporting an office by performing clerical or administrative duties such as typing correspondence
Answering telephone inquiries, and maintaining a filing system.
