  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Work involves conducting investigations and surveys at a wide range of industrial complexes which require moderate physical exertion such as carrying equipment, standing, walking, bending, climbing, and other related movements.
  • You may be exposed to a wide range of physical, chemical, biological and radiological hazards, including some for which the nature and extent of the hazard is not completely understood (i.e. nanoparticles).
  • You may be exposed to a variety of unpleasant and potentially hazardous conditions during assessments and surveys of the workplace.
  • Personal protective equipment will be used any time harmful exposures are anticipated.
  • You will be required to visit industrial, laboratory, or medical areas where toxic chemicals, high noise levels, dusts, fumes, electrical shock, moving parts and/or machinery, ionizing/non-ionizing radiation, and biological agents may be present.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education/certification and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     This position has a Basic Requirement applicants must meet in addition to the Experience Requirement:

    Basic Requirement:

    Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Note: You must upload a copy of your transcripts with your application package.

    OR

    Degree in a Related Field: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.     Certification: Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). Note: You must upload a copy of this certification with your application package.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the Experience Requirement listed below:

    Specialized Experience: Applicants must demonstrate one year of specialized experience in their resume, which includes: conducting a wide variety of industrial hygiene surveys and assessments of chemical, physical, and biological hazards and preparing comprehensive written reports of survey findings with specification recommendations for eliminating/mitigating hazards.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must qualify based on experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

    FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
