About this role

The Development Associate, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) supports the Director of Development, LCCC, who is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of Georgetown Lombardi donors and prospects, including foundation and corporations. In addition, the DA is responsible for programmatic and administrative tasks for the building and maintaining of a successful Georgetown Lombardi and Georgetown University development program.

The duties for this position include: assistance with the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship process for donors and prospects, drafting, typing, formatting and editing of correspondence, reports, briefings, and newsletter articles. In addition, the DA must monitor and manage Georgetown Lombardi's accounts in GU360, provide systems assistance by preparing spreadsheets, generating computer reports, tracking gifts, conducting prospect research, handling general inquiries, providing staff support for special events, maintaining electronic and paper files, and other duties as assigned.  

This role reports to the Director of Development, LCCC and works collaboratively with all GUMC Development and Georgetown Lombardi staff. S/he serves as the front-line representative of the Georgetown LCCC to the public, as well as the Georgetown community, in which the incumbent will interact with volunteers, donors, and key leadership. Personal interactions, phone, and written correspondence will occur with external constituents, Office of Advancement staff, Medical Center and Cancer Center staff, and other University members. The Development Associate will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:

Discovery, Qualification, and Cultivation of Individual Prospects and Donors

  • Conduct prospect research, request and produce prospect and donor reports, and prepare briefings for donor visits and events.
  • Draft, edit, and format correspondence, proposals, informational packets, and stewardship reports.
  • Collaborate with Direct of Development on pipeline-building activities to include: direct mail solicitations, scheduling and invitations for lab tours, salon events, etc.

Discovery, Qualification, and Cultivation of Foundation Prospects and Donors

  • Research and identify foundation funding opportunities.
  • Coordinate proposal submissions by preparing budgets, editing proposals, writing cover letters, gathering attachments, mailing proposals, and performing database entry.

Marketing and Outreach

  • Innovate cancer center marketing and outreach based on analyses of metrics and evidence-based practices.
  • Coordinate or manage marketing efforts as assigned.

General Administrative Responsibilities

  • Collect, build, and update LCCC donor files to consist of paper files and a computer directory of programmatic documents.
  • Coordinate gift agreements and gift processing for Director of Development.
  • Submit and track requisitions, purchase orders, reimbursement requests, procard reconciliations, sponsorship requests, and other University paperwork.
  • Maintain general reporting information and perform analysis of pipeline-building efforts.
  • Regularly update donor information within the database, to ensure records are correct.
  • Provide Cancer Center event support.
  • Assist staff members within Medical Center Development and the Cancer Center, as needed.
  • Participate in OA-sponsored events and training programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One to three years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of training and work experience
  • Previous development, stewardship, and/or advancement operations experience is highly desired
  • Demonstrated ability to complete multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, while consistently meeting all deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, WordPerfect, and databases
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and highly developed interpersonal interaction skills
  • Ability to give significant attention to detail and keep focused on priorities as set by the Director of Development, LCCC
  • Ability to use good judgment and ethics in handling confidential materials with sensitivity and discretion
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, yet able to work independently, as needed
