Senior Engineer III
Serves as the project manager for all phases of implementation (i.e. planning, study, design, construction, and closeout) for complex wastewater treatment and collection system projects. Procures, manages, and administers engineering and construction contracts. Manages projects' scope, schedule, and budget. Ensures that user agency requirements are incorporated into construction documents. Reviews plans and specifications for constructability and compliance with all local, state and federal code requirements. Prepares project status reports, budget updates, and may also prepare project designs. Analyzes and negotiates change orders, reviews schedules, and prepares cost estimates. Performs site inspections to ensure conformance to construction documents. Must provide outstanding customer service to user agencies and other project stakeholders. This position resides in Capital Facilities, Wastewater Design and Construction Division, in the Department of Public Works & Environmental Services. The reporting location for this position will be the Noman M. Cole, Jr. Pollution Control Plant at 9399 Richmond Highway in Lorton, Virginia.
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to: graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; and four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.
Bachelor's degree with major course work in civil/environmental engineering or related field. Knowledgeable of the principles and practice of wastewater treatment. Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field. Experience procuring, administering, and managing architectural/engineering and/or construction contracts. Experience managing wastewater treatment capital construction projects. Experience managing large and complex capital construction projects and multiple projects concurrently. Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental and permitting regulations. Proficiency using Microsoft Office products (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Experienced using AutoCAD, ArcMap, and project management software such as Primavera or e-Builder. Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid driver's license is required. Possession of a valid Virginia Professional Engineer or Architect license. An individual who possesses a valid Professional Engineer or Architect license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers & Landscape Architects decision regarding that individual's application for reciprocity.
The appointee of this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
