Clinical Research Assistant, Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) - Georgetown University Medical Center

The mission of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) is to forge, expand, and sustain bi-directional partnerships with the public and community-based organizations in order to facilitate community participation in the development, conduct and dissemination of clinical and translational research; to provide training and resources for investigators to enhance their community engagement and research skills, and to engage community-based practitioners in collaboratively conducting clinical and translational research; and to increase research participation by members of the diverse communities that make up the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

The Clinical Research Assistant provides services as a certified DXA technician/ coordinator as well as Research Assistant for the Clinical Research Unit (CRU).  She or he provides clinical support to the registered nurse for research related clinical care activities and standard of care activities for subject and patients on the CRU while always following best patient relation practices. The Clinical Research Assistant provides technically precise DXA scans and care for non-research and research participants scheduled for DXAs on the CRU; and provides overall coordination of non-research and research DXA scans done on the CRU. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates care of DXA patients scheduled on the CRU for research and non-research reasons - to include independent review of the medical record for health history, further assessment of bone health history, technical completion and analysis of scan, and results reporting to MD - as well as tracking scans, providing census data for billing, and establishing/maintaining SOPs for his/her practice. 
  • Assists nurses with their clinical research and standard-of-care tasks, including taking vital signs, ECGs, phlebotomy, transportation of subjects, pick-up and delivery of drugs from the research and main pharmacy; and processing, storing and shipping laboratory specimens. 
  • Assists the unit in administrative tasks such as conducting inventory and ordering supplies, copying and chart set-up, and fulfilling receptionist duties when the Unit Secretary is absent.
  • As needed, engages in coordination of prevention quality improvement measures as needed, provides clinical and laboratory support for off-site visits, and assists in training new staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or equivalent
  • Experience performing clinical assistant, phlebotomy, and clinical research assistant functions
  • BLS certification required - preference for IV insertion skills and DXA experience
  • Expected to obtain International Society for Clinical Densitometry certification within the first year of employment if new hire employee does not have at date of hire
