Coordinator for Challenge Course & Climbing Wall
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Full-time professional exempt staff position with full benefits. The Coordinator for Challenge Course & Climbing Wall has major responsibility for managing the RecWell Adventure Program challenge course (including a low ropes course, high ropes course, and alpine tower) and outdoor climbing wall (bouldering grotto and 55 foot wall) and assists with the supervision of student-led adventure trips. Specific responsibilities include, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising 25-30 challenge course facilitators and 20-25 climbing wall employees, leading monthly staff meetings, facilitating staff development sessions, instructing the academic course “Foundations and Applications of Challenge Course Theory”, and inspecting, maintaining, and repairing elements on the challenge course and climbing wall.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have, as a minimum: a Bachelor’s degree, at least two years of experience working as a facilitator on high and low ropes courses, and at least one year of experience supervising and training others, demonstrated commitment to student development and diversity and inclusion through programming, mentoring, or training, a working knowledge of health and safety standards of challenge course programs, including knowledge of Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) standards, and experience participating in outdoor adventure activities (e.g. rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, caving, mountain biking), especially rock climbing .
Preferred: Master’s degree in recreation management, outdoor leadership, environmental education, higher education, or related field, experience supervising college student personnel, knowledge of high angle rescue techniques, American Red Cross CPR Instructor Certification, Wilderness First Responder certification, related industry certifications (e.g. ACCT, AMGA, PCIA, CWA), and experience organizing and leading outdoor adventure trips.
START DATE: May 1, 2019 (negotiable)
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience, the range is $56,000-$61,000.
